ICC World Cup 2015 will be different

The CEO of International Cricket Council, Haroon Lorgat has informed that the ICC World Cup 2015 which will be co-hosted by Australia and New Zealand will be among 10 teams only instead of 14. But, 16 teams will get chance in the ICC World Twenty20.

The opinion of the council is that while the Twenty20 format is quite suitable for promoting cricket world-wide the 50-overs format may be reserved for the powerful teams as it will prove the competitiveness of the teams.

Mr. Lorgat also announced that the venues for India’s quarter final and semi-final of the current World Cup series will be Ahmedabad and Mohali in case the Indian team reaches to those levels. In the pre-tournament ratings of the hosting countries – Bangladesh, India and Sri Lanka – India was top-seeded and as a result the Indian team will be playing all the matches at home if they could make it to the knock-out stage.

As a result of reduction of participating teams in the next World Cup, Kenya, Netherlands and Ireland will be denied entry. The Kenyan all-rounder Steve Tikolo expressed his displeasure during the team’s practice session us Chennai.

Tikolo disagreed with the ICC and stated that reducing number of teams in World Cup will hamper globalization of the game. The Chief Executive of Kenya Live Cricket Match Tom Sears also felt it unfair to deny them the opportunity to play with top teams.

In the 2003 World Cup held in South Africa, the Kenyan team reached up to semi final and afterwards their performance had been not up to that level. Tikolo said that the current team consists of young and enthusiastic players and the recent matches in South Africa, India and Sri Lanka were of much benefit to them.

ICC Cricket World Cup 2011 – Who will lift it?

The euphoria over the World Cup Cricket 2011 is already there. So also the heated arguments and debates about the final winner. The cricket lovers in general and experts are all of the same view that including the defending champions Australia, there are four strong contenders for the finals. Two of the hosting teams – India and Sri Lanka are expected to be ahead in the race and South Africa is the fourth strong contender.

But, it is not over with that! The two black horses – England and Pakistan –  cannot be under estimated.

Ricky Ponting and his boys are passing through a season of defeats. However, history says that the Aussies know how to win the World Cup 2011 at last. Moreover, none can ignore that in the ODI rating of ICC they are still at the peak.

Nobody will deny that South African team is as strong as a rock. They are capable of defeating all the other teams. But will they? It is a million dollar question. They lack consistency in performance. After an uninterrupted winning spree during the initial matches hey play funny cricket in the final stage. Their performance used to be so unreliable that the players themselves will be taken aback on viewing their miserable performance during the finals.

According to the national selector of Sri Lanka, Roy Dias, the team under the leadership of Kumar Sangakkara is well balanced. Muttiah Muralitharan, Rangana Herath, Ajantha Mendis and Tilakaratne Dilshan have made the team extremely rich in variety bowling.  Upul Tharanga, Sangakkara, Thisara Perera and Thilina Kandamby form a strong group of left-handed batsmen.

The Indian team is a wonderful blend of stalwarts and highly skillful youngsters. MS Dhoni as a skipper with proven track record, the great Tendulkar, the blasting performers like Sehwag, Pathan and Gambhir make a team that is expected to repeat the great victory of 1983.

In fact, for Pakistan, this World Cup is too early since they are just limping back after the worst downfall due to the scandal. However, Captain Sohaib Akhtar believes that his team has to win so as to ensure the return of cricket to Pakistan.

The England skipper Andrew Strauss believes that his team will surprise everyone by winning the World Cup through adventurous cricket.

Some off – field dramas before on – field action

T20 world cup has all the makings for a fascinating drama, but it seems it would emulate our imaginations. Yesterday Andrew Symonds was caught in a drinking saga and was asked to leave to Australia, as he couldn’t fit into scheme of things for Australia.

It does not end there, where yesterday Star news reported a tiff between Dhoni and Shewag, regarding the later been kept out of practise game. News channel reported that Shewag was left out of the practise game and he does not carry any shoulder injury, contrary, to the popular perception.

Even though there is no official confirmations regarding this but one do get the feeling that all is not well with the team, as captain interviews give a hint that he feels Shewag does not a find a favour, in present scheme of things.

He had a indirect swipe at Virender Shewag, where he said, that some things can’t be changed, as Shewag attitude to go aggressive after every ball irrespective of situation, which evinces clearly that captain favours Rohit Sharma ahead of Shewag.

Coming back to troublesome Symonds, his frolics doesn’t seem to desist, as he has defied team management instructions and was seen indulged in drinking beer , when he watching a local rugby match with his teammates and it hasn’t gone well with team management.

Core members namely Ricky Ponting, vice captain Michael Clarke along with Tim Nielsen decided that Symonds can’t continue like this and have decided to send him back home. Cricket Australia James Sutherland, who has already issued a clear cut statement, that it is the last chance for him to redeem him career, stated that this would be last straw in the live icc t20.

Things certainly dint look good for Andrew Symonds, as there are speculation, that he would desist his international career by announcing retirement before he could face any action from Cricket Australia, which would be nothing but disgusting.

Even though his team mates Nathan Bracken expressed, that it would be too early to say his career would be over, but said that they would badly miss him, as he is a proven cricketer in this format of the game and with his multi – talented skills would be very difficult for someone to replicate it.

Cameron White was announced as a replacement for Andrew Symmonds and Austrlia which had a pretty impressive preparation, by winning both their warm – up matches, would badly miss Symmonds, but how they recuperate would be witnessed in coming days.

Getting your basics right for this 2009 T 20 world cup

T20 an idea, which was furnished a definite structure in 2001, by England and Wales’s cricket board, who desperately were looking, for some lifeline, to salvage the dwindling popularity of cricket has become a toast of cricket, where it has evolved into such a dynamic state of building a multimillion dollar world cup.

Many people have a prejudice that rules for T20 are parallel, to fifty over format, but there are titanic difference ranging from rules to fielding restriction in both the formats of game, so its better you get evinced with it, before start of T20 world cup in England, so that you can flaunt your knowledge, in your cricketing circles.

In this article, we will shuttle through few of difference, which T20 has compared, to fifty over format. In terms of rules

T 20 is all about time and if either of a umpire believes, that a team is wasting unnecessary time, they can award a five run penalty.

In a normal T 20 games interval between the innings both innings last for exactly fifteen minutes, however if over’s are reduced then it can be further curtailed, to even ten minutes.

In a single innings, each of the bowler can get to bowl maximum of one fifth of total overs (i. e.) 4 overs per twenty overs.

To calculate a team’s net run – rate, average runs scored by that team is deducted by the average runs scored against it. It can be pivotal to distinguish teams, if they are in same position in points table.

At any time of the innings there can be only maximum of five players in leg side.

First six over of the innings, fielding team should have not more than two players outside the thirty yards mark.

Both the teams, must finish their bowling within stipulated seventy five minutes and if bowling teams exceeds the seventy five minutes, for each of a extra over bowled, by the team extra six runs will be added ,to the batting team score. If umpired believe that batting team is wasting time, he can deduce the scores accordingly.

Contrary to ODI format, T20 cannot end in a tie; if both teams are levelled in scores, at the end of the innings, then the match would be decided, by a super over, where each team will send three batsmen and a bowler, to decide the result of match in a solitary over and will have have services of eleven players to decide on outcome of the match.

So you are more than prepared to be termed as ICC T20 expert and become a cynosure in this T20 world cup in England this June.?
